LOUISE SLAUGHTER PROVIDES FLAG FLOWN OVER THE CAPITOL FOR ST. JOHN'S HOME

December 6, 2007

Monday, December 10th at 11 a.m. Louise Slaughter will present a flag to veteran and St. John’s Day Break participant, Thomas Stewart. Mr. Stewart requested the flag from Congresswoman Slaughter and was pleased to get a positive response. A flag that was flown over the United States Capitol Building will now replace St. John’s present flag. Ms. Slaughter, who was instrumental in getting the flag will participate in the flag dedication. A Color Guard of Veterans will raise the flag.

Currently there are 52 veterans who reside at St. John’s Home and 6 veterans who are staff members. Thomas Stewart along with many of St. John’s residents and staff who are veterans will gather to watch and participate in the flag ceremony and a reception to follow. The flag ceremony will be especially meaningful to Mr. Stewart, who will celebrate his 41st anniversary of his first day in the U.S. Army on December 7.
